When the County Council announced the "notorious bathroom" amendment, Montgomery County's Citizens were outraged...Thousands of upset emails and phone calls poured into the council offices.
Maryland Citizens for a Responsible Government sent a team down to the Council offices, primarily to gather the names and contact information of folks that had complained about Bill 23-07 (when you write the council, it becomes public information)...

Dear Council member Praisner,
I have been really been racking my brains trying to understand the purpose and reasoning for the council vote on the transgender Bill 23-07. Please help me understand.
Donald K.
Councilmember's,
This law passing is the most disturbing piece of news that I have EVER heard about Montgomery County. I grew up in Montgomery county and have lived here for the majority of my life. Over the last 15-20 years I have watched it change from a beautiful place with cow pastures and a family environment to a truly repulsive place with crime out of control and fringe groups being pandered to for whatever agenda.
Recently, a law was passed to allow transgendered persons access to public facilities. I am so repulsed by this and Understand that this area has turned into something I would rather not be a part of that I have just decided to move to Annapolis. It is widely known that this county has been ruined and this bill being passed is proof. The only solution for "normal" people is to move away either to northern Virginia or the Annapolis area.
Furthermore, Duchy Trachtenberg disgusts me for even submitting this bill.
Thank you,
Chris S.
Ms. Praisner,
I am writing to express my deep concern over your support of Bill 23-07. It is my understanding that the Montgomery County Council is in favor of transgender use of public facilities, such as restrooms, locker rooms and dressing rooms in schools and gyms. I feel there must be ways to protect the rights of individuals without risking the privacy and safety of others. This is not a matter of passing judgement on any individuals life choices, but rather protecting the privacy of single sex amenities in public places.
It is unacceptable to me that a child or an adult might encounter a person of the opposite gender in a private facility such as a bathroom. It is unconscionable that as citizens and lawmakers we would support this, or even enable such an occurrence.
I urge you to reconsider your support of bill 23-07, and keep the privacy and safety of both adults and children in the forefront of your mind as you weigh the importance of all parties affected by this issue.
Charlotte S.
Do not pass this outrageous bill. Once the word gets out the majority of registered voters in the County will turn you out.
David C.
UNBELIEVABLE!
Two of our members have approached, on separate occasions at public events, two different sponsors of Bill 23-07 to ask them why they didn’t pay any attention to the outpouring of righteous concern about the Bill.
Both Valerie Ervin and Marc Elrich claimed that "I haven't received any complaints about the bill"
Did you call Valerie or Marc and do you live in Montgomery County? Did their staff not tell them about the calls and flood of emails from their constituents? Give’em another ring. Ask the staff member if they got your message the last time.
• Valerie is at: (240) 777-7960
• Marc is at: (240) 777-7966
BONNIE CULLISON, PRESIDENT OF THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY EDUCATION ASSOCIATION (MCEA) - THE TEACHER UNION WHICH DISTRIBUTES THE APPLE BALLOT - WROTE A LETTER IN SUPPORT OF BILL 23-07
Further proof of why, this election, it would be a good idea to ignore the recommendations of the teachers union apple ballot. Or, pick up an apple ballot, and vote the opposite!
